Spectre Divide, the new 3v3 competitive shooter that infuses the tactical shooting elements of VALORANT and Counter-Strike with a unique body-swapping twist, has reduced its cosmetic skin prices by 17-25% following the backlash from gamers online. Just one day its launch, Mountaintop Studios, the development team behind Spectre Divide, has announced that it's slashing its prices down in response to criticism from players.

Mountaintop, a new game studio staffed by talent from VALORANT, Halo Infinite, Apex Legends, Oculus VR, and more, announced its plans on Discord on Thursday. “First and foremost—my personal apologies for the situation. We’ve heard the feedback on pricing, and we’re going to make some big adjustments," game director Lee ‘BopNSwap’ Horn wrote. Those “big adjustments” include a 17-25% reduction in cosmetic skins across the game.

The Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece bundle, which previously cost 9,000 SP, has its price reduced to 7,000 SP. The price of the Medusa Prestige bundle was also dropped from 4,500 SP to 3,400 SP. The Prestige character skins also had its price reduced from from 1,300 SP to 1,000 SP, and Masterpiece character skins slashed from 1,800 SP to 1,500 SP.

However, despite the reduction of Spectre Divide's cosmetic skins, the company still faced criticism for the decision as its cosmetics are still way too high. The Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece bundle will still cost players 7000 Spectre Points, which is equivalent to $70. This cosmetic bundle already had a 25% discount before Thursday's update, which would have set players back about $120.

Previously, Mountaintop said that Spectre Divide's cosmetics will be priced similarly to other games, and the studio assures that the game will be not be pay-to-win. “We’re committed to the fact that Spectre Divide won’t be pay-to-win,” Mountaintop said.

 What is Spectre Divide about?

Just like in CS:GO and VALORANT, the objective of the attacking team is to plant the bomb while the defending team must prevent that from happening or defuse before time runs out and the bomb explodes, but Spectre Divide features a unique twist known as the "Duality" mechanic that aims to "reshape" how players approach strategy. According to Mountaintop's overview of the game, this mechanic will let you "control two bodies in real-time, letting you defend two sites at once, cover your own cross, or even trade yourself. Duality is an entirely new vector for mastery, bringing a new dimension to tac shooter fundamentals."
