Song Hye Kyo’s hit Netflix series, The Glory, did it again. After receiving eight nominations and winning three awards at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards, the show once again triumphed at the 2023 Asian Academy Creative Awards. However, it isn’t the only Netflix show that made it big at the ceremonies, as even the reality competition Physical 100 nabbed a major award.

The winners of the 2023 Asian Academy Creative Awards were officially announced on Thursday, December 7, after taking place in Singapore. Despite the tight competition, The Glory and Physical 100 came out as big winners, thanks to the success of these two series.

The Glory took home the Best Drama Series award, while one of its lead stars, Lim Ji Yeon, who played the role of the antagonist Park Yeon Jin, won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Alternatively, Physical: 100 nabbed the Best Non-Scripted Entertainment award.

For starters, The Glory is a revenge drama that follows the story of Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo), a victim of school violence. After taking a job as a homeschool teacher at the school of her former bully’s child, she plans to take her revenge. Some scenes from the show are based on the true story of a student who was repeatedly beaten and burned in 2006.

On the other hand, Physical: 100 is a survival show featuring a hundred competitors in their top physical shapes. As they go head-to-head against each other on different quests of strength, balance, strength, strategy, agility, and endurance, only one will come out on top and win the $240,000 pot money.

Will there be Physical: 100 Season 2?

With the critical response Physical: 100 received, being lauded for breaking the misconceptions that come with Asian bodies, the show has been renewed for a second season. Netflix officially announced the series’ renewal in June 2023—five months after the first season’s release—as the search for the ultimate physique continues.

However, Physical: 100 Season 2 is about to raise the bar, and the size of the universe challenging each participant will grow even bigger. Becoming one of the service’s most famous non-English unscripted programs, director Jang Ho Gi is thankful that it has received so much love from across the globe.

“We paid attention to all the comments and feedback,” he told Tudum. “We decided to retain the essence of the show — finding the perfect physique— while introducing fresh elements. This is our way of expressing our gratitude to the fans of the show.”
