The previous episode of Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow- finally saw Sung Jin-woo defeat Demon King Baran, the final boss of the Demon Castle, and he is now ready to cure his mother from Eternal Slumber with the Elixir of Life. However, it looks like things won't get easier for the S-Ranks who are trying to take down the monstrous ant monster at Jeju Island. One of the most powerful monsters in the Solo Leveling series will make his debut in the anime adaptation, and it looks like it's up to Sung Jin-woo to save stop the major threat.

The official website of Solo Leveling has released preview stills, official synopsis, and staff information for the ninth episode of Season 2 (Episode 21 overall), which is titled It was All Worth It. The next episode, which is scheduled to premiere on Crunchyroll this Saturday, March 1, is expected to begin the Jeju Island Arc, the 13th story arc of the Solo Leveling light novel series. The episode synopsis teases Jin-woo's involvement in the raid to reclaim Jeju Island, but with his concerns about his mother and sister at bay, it looks like this is going to be the anime's most emotional episode yet.

The official synopsis of Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 9 reads:

After clearing the Demon’s Castle and obtaining the Elixir of Life, Sung Jin-woo heads to his mother’s hospital room, finally claiming his true reward. However, a lingering unease haunts him—has he stepped into a realm he was never meant to enter? Meanwhile, Jinwoo is strongly urged to participate in the raid to reclaim Jeju Island. It’s a rare opportunity for significant level-up gains, yet in his mind, the images of his mother and sister, Jinah, continue to surface.

While the synopsis reveals that Jin-woo has finally completed his quest to awaken his mother from Eternal Slumber, new concerns are expected to arise. These concerns were recently addressed in recent interviews by the anime's Japanese voice actors, Taito Ban (Jin-woo) and Reina Ueda (Cha Hae-in). Speaking to the Japanese outlet, Real Sound (via CBR), Ueda commented on Jin-woo's eyes when he acts as the Shadow Monarch, turning deep blue or purple: "There must be a meaning here," she teased.

Ban echoed that his Necromancer power must have a fundamental meaning in Solo Leveling. "As we will find out in the future, there is a meaning to everything, including why he came to have that power," he added.

What is Solo Leveling Season 2 about?

Solo Leveling is based on the South Korean portal fantasy web novel series written by Chugong and illustrated by DUBU, which launched on Webtoon services in March 2018 and ended in December 2021. The manhwa and original novel series is being published by Yen Press in English, and the Japanese version is published by Kadokawa under the title Ore Dake Level-Up na Ken (I'm the Only One Who Has Leveled Up).

Crunchyroll shared a description for Solo Leveling Season 2:

It's been over ten years since gates that lead to another dimension have begun appearing across the world. The battles between the magic beasts inhabiting the dungeons through the gates and the human hunters who have awakened the abilities to fight them show no signs of ending. Ordinarily, a hunter's abilities do not change upon awakening, with their rank never increasing. However, the low-ranked Sung Jin-woo, known as 'The Weakest Hunter of All Mankind,' gained the ability to level up through battle during a raid on a double dungeon. Having completed a job-change quest that earned him the job 'Shadow Monarch' and command over an army of shadows, Jin-woo heads into battle seeking the ingredients for the Elixir of Life to save his sick mother.
