The movie's lead star, Simu Liu, revealed an exciting new release update for Shang-Chi 2. The president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, confirmed in September 2021 that Marvel Studios had huge plans for the sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Recently, a rumor was going around that Shang-Chi 2 might premiere on February 14, 2025. But the constant shuffling and reshuffling of Marvel release dates made it much more difficult to figure out anything about the sequel’s release.
Regardless, it has been reported that Shang-Chi 2 recently became a part of Marvel Studios’ official production calendar. This is a positive sign and a huge indication that work for the sequel can begin any day.
Shang-Chi 2 Release Date Update
On Threads, a fan recently inquired about the status of Shang-Chi 2. To this, Simu Liu confirmed that he was informed that once the Avengers movie, probably The Kang Dynasty, has been released, then the sequel for Shang-Chi 2 will come.
He also stated that the movie "keeps pushing back" because of some circumstances that are absolutely out of his control.
Liu said, “I was told it would follow Avengers, but that keeps pushing back due to circumstances beyond my control :( hope to have more concrete news to share soon.” If Avengers 5 releases on May 1, 2026, our suspicions will be confirmed that Marvel Studios might release Shang-Chi 2 sometime after May 2026.
However, it isn’t yet confirmed which Avengers movie Liu was referring to in his post because if he was talking about Avengers: Secret Wars, then the Shang-Chi sequel would release after May 2027, considering the current schedule of Disney.
Currently, Marvel Studios has two movies without any titles set to release in 2026; one on July 24 and one on November 6. There is a slight possibility that Shang-Chi 2 might occupy one of these two slots.
Unfortunately, nothing is certain yet, so fans will have to rely on speculations and theories alone, hoping the title releases as soon as possible.
