The red eyes said everything. Fortnite's crossover with Sonic the Hedgehog is far from over — and the next character dropping from the Battle Bus looks like the blue blur's most menacing rival.
In a teaser aired during SEGA's Club Chaos: Sonic 35th Celebration livestream on October 9, a pair of glowing red eyes flickers on screen around the 11-second mark before the trailer cuts to a single card: "to be continued." The eyes belong to Metal Sonic, Dr. Eggman's robotic clone of Sonic, confirming that the fan-favorite villain is on his way to Fortnite. SEGA shared no release date or further details, ending the teaser on the cliffhanger instead.

The tease confirms that the Fortnite x Sonic collaboration is continuing into its next phase. Sonic and his friends originally raced into Fortnite in August 2026 as part of Chapter 7: Season 4, the gaming-themed season subtitled Override. That partnership was first teased during Epic's State of Unreal showcase in June 2026, before SEGA rolled out a "New zone loading" video showing Peely sprinting through a Green Hill Zone-inspired map. The August content brought the Sonic squad into the game proper, and the Club Chaos teaser makes clear the crossover has more in store.
Metal Sonic is a fitting headliner for the collab's second act. Created by Dr. Eggman as a metallic doppelganger of Sonic, the character has tormented the blue blur since his debut and remains one of the franchise's most requested additions whenever Sonic crosses into another game. His timing is no accident: Metal Sonic is also set to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which hits theaters March 19, 2027, as well as in the 35th anniversary animated short rolling out later this year.
Whether Metal Sonic arrives as a full skin, part of a larger event, or something else entirely remains unanswered. The "to be continued" ending suggests SEGA and Epic are holding back the details for a follow-up reveal — and with the Chapter 7: Season 4 "Override" season built around video game crossovers, the timing could hardly be better. For now, players will have to wait to find out when the red eyes land on the island.
The timing lines up with a packed anniversary year for the blue blur. Alongside the animated short and Sonic the Hedgehog 4, SEGA has rolled out Classic and Modern Sonic Collections and announced a second year of DLC and updates for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The Fortnite collaboration — first teased during Epic's State of Unreal showcase in June 2026 alongside partners like Vampire Survivors, Control Resonant, and Phantom Blade Zero — is one of several gaming crossovers anchoring the Chapter 7: Season 4 Override season.
