There is little doubt that Rick and Morty Season 7 will be very different from its predecessors for one reason: it's the first season without Justin Roiland. Not surprisingly, the former co-showrunner's absence had a huge effect on the people working on the show. Still, producer Steven Levy points out that the creative team managed to make things work without Roiland.

Back in 2022, the Orange County District Attorney’s office charged Justin Roiland with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit. A May 2020 complaint indicates the incident against a Jane Doe allegedly occurred in January 2020. Since then, Roiland pleaded not guilty to the charges. Still, that didn't help his situation at all, as Adult Swim decided to cut ties with the Solar Opposites star and named Dan Harmon as Rick and Morty's sole showrunner.

But what was it like for the creative team who had worked closely with Roiland for several years? Steven Levy opened up to the Los Angeles Times and revealed that it wasn't easy to work without Roiland. Still, the team persevered.

"We had a rug pulled from underneath us," Levy said of Roiland's sudden departure. "The only people we could lean on were each other. It would have been very easy to just say, 'I'm done and I don’t want to do anything with this show anymore.' But our crew said, 'No, we're not going to let one person drag down all of our hard work.' This show is created by this team — this family of incredibly hardworking people, and we are going to push through and show the world that we aren’t going to miss a beat."

It is an acceptable response considering that Justin Roiland was a major part of the show. However, it is great to know that the team worked hard to come up with something awesome in Rick and Morty Season 7.
