CyberAgent, SEGA, Colorful Palette, and animation studio P.A. Works have announced Project Sekai: Kowareta Sekai to Utaenai Miku (Project Sekai: The Broken World and Miku Who Can’t Sing), the first anime film based on the adventure/rhythm game Hatsune Miku: COLORFUL STAGE! (known as Project SEKAI: COLORFUL STAGE! feat. Hatsune Miku in Japan). P.A. Works is in charge of the animation, with with Hiroyuki Hata as the director. The film will feature a completely original story, featuring a new version of Hatsune Miku not depicted in the game. The main visual features a lonely-looking Hatsune Miku surrounded by noise on the busy streets of Shibuya, ignored by most of the people around her. The puddle beneath her doesn't show a reflection. Project Sekai: Kowareta Sekai to Utaenai Miku is scheduled to premiere on January 17, 2025 in Japan.

What is Project Sekai: The Broken World and Miku Who Can’t Sing about?
Project Sekai: Kowareta Sekai to Utaenai Miku is centered on the new Hatsune Miku, and follows her adventures as she meets new characters and grows alongside them. You can check out the character design of the new Hatsune Miku here:
The official synopsis of Project Sekai: Kowareta Sekai to Utaenai Miku reads:
Ichika Hoshino hears an unfamiliar Miku song at a CD shop. She sees a version of Hatsune Miku on the screen she doesn’t recognize and blurts out, “Miku!?” Surprised, Miku meets Ichika’s gaze, but she soon disappears. Later, after a street performance, Miku reappears on Ichika’s phone, looking abandoned. Upon hearing Miku’s story, Ichika learns that Miku wishes to reach out to people with her song, but no matter how much she sings, it never seems to get through. Seeing Ichika touch many hearts through her live performances, Miku hopes to learn from her. Smiling, Ichika responds, “If I’m good enough,” and thus begins a new story involving Hatsune Miku and the young characters.
Published by SEGA and developed by Crypton Future Media, Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!, also known as Project Sekai: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku, is a rhythm game that's a spin-off of the Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA rhythm game series by SEGA and Crypton Future Media. It was first released in September 2020. P.A. Works previously produced animation for a short anime series for the franchise.
