The anime adaptation of Synecdoche‘s Plus-Sized Elf (Elf-san wa Yaserarenai) manga has released its first trailer that introduces the main Japanese cast and features Erufuda, the overweight elf who traveled to our world in order to eat French fries, but became too heavy to return to her own world. Plus-Sized Elf , which is being produced by studio Elias, is scheduled to premiere in July 2024. The trailer shows the anime's hilarious premise as we see Erufuda craving for fries and we see her efforts to lose weight.
Erufuda is being voiced by Ayaso Ito, who's known for playing Arisa Ichigaya in the band-based anime series BanG Dream!, and Kaoruko Hanayagi in the media franchise Revue Starlight. Here's what Ito previously said about her fun role:
The other cast revealed are Takahide Ishii as Tomoatsu Naoe, Rena Hasegawa as Kuroeda, and Ayaka Fukuhara as Olga. Plus-Sized anime is being directed by Toshikatsu Tokoro (Soul Link), and Yuuki Takabayashi (We Love Rice) is in charge of the series composition while Katsuyuki Sato (Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!) is working on character designs.
What is Plus-Sized Elf about?
Plus-Sized Elf anime is based on the manga of the same title (Japanese: Erufu-san wa Yaserarenai, lit. 'The Elf Can't Lose Weight') written and illustrated by Synecdoche. It began serialization in 2016, and was originally published by Wani Books' Comic Gum website until 2021 with a total of 47 chapters, compiled into 8 volumes. Akita Shoten is the current publisher, and the manga inspired a follow-up series titled Plus-Sized Elf: Super Sized!, which published its first tankoubon volume in 2022. At the time of this writing, there are currently two volumes. It's being serialized in Akita Shonen’s Dokodemo Young Champion.
