Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom Reveals New Key Visual Ahead of Its 2024 Release Date

Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom anime movie released a new visual ahead of its theatrical release in Japan this year.

Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom is one of the most highly-anticipated anime movies coming this year, and the production team has released a second teaser visual ahead of its theatrical release. Animation studio Madhouse is animating the isekai anime movie, which will cover the Holy Kingdom arc of the light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. The movie is scheduled to release in theaters in Japan this year. Check out the key new key visual for Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom below:

KADOKAWA will also have a booth for the movie during AnimeJapan 2024 (March 23-24), and a variety of merchandise inspired by the Overlord visual below will be offered at the event. Fans can expect acrylic standees, badges, and a wall scroll featuring designs featuring the main characters Ainz Ooal Gown and Albedo.

The first season of Overlord TV anime series consisted of 13 episodes, and premiered in Japan in July 2015. Season 1 was made available to stream on Funimation as it broadcasted in Japan, and the company released en English dub of the anime on Blu-ray and DVD in November 2016. Overlord Season 2 premiered in January 2018 and concluded in April 2018. Crunchyroll streamed Season 2 as it broadcasted, and the English dub was streamed on Funimation. Season 3 premired in July 2018, and Crunchyroll streamed the third season as it aired, with Funimation streaming the English dub of the series again. Season 4 of the anime premiered in July 2022, and Crunchyroll streamed both the original Japanese version (with English sub) and English dub of the series.

The Overlord anime adaptations were produced by Madhouse. The isekai franchise also has a short anime series titled Pie Pie Pieiades. Muruyama started the original Overlord light novel series online in 2010, and Kadokawa's Enterbrain imprint started publishing the series in print in 2012. The series also received a manga adaptation by Hugin Miyama and Satoshi Oshio, and Yen Press is publishing the light novel series and manga in North America.

What is Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom about?

The upcoming Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom movie will is expected to cover the arc featured in the 12th and 13th volumes of the light novel series, so that means the plot of the movie will be canon.

Yen Press licensed the light novel series in English, and provided the following description for Volume 12:

The Sacred Kingdom has enjoyed a great many years without war thanks to a colossal wall constructed after a historic tragedy. They understand best how fragile peace can be. When the terrible demon Jaldabaoth takes to the field at the head of a united army of monstrous tribes, the Sacred Kingdom’s leaders know their defenses are not enough. With the very existence of the country at stake, the pious have no choice but to seek help wherever they can get it, even if it means breaking taboo and parlaying with the undead king of the Nation of Darkness

An exact release date for Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom hasn't been announced yet, but we hope we'll find out more information about the highly-anticipated isekai anime movie soon. Anime fans are also expecting that the production team will announce Overlord Season 5, which hasn't officially been confirmed yet.
