There's a lot of top-tier anime series that have aired this year, but only a few of them have become a huge hit the way Oshi no Ko (English translation: My Favorite Idol) has. Produced by Doga Kobo, the isekai idol drama is based on the best-selling manga series written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. Oshi no Ko's visually-stunning animation, compelling story, and a catchy opening song titled Idol performed by YOASOBI, made it one of the greatest anime series released in recent years.

The extended premiere of Oshi no Ko Season 1, which premiered on HIDIVE back in April, hooked anime fans all over the world. Of course, the audiences will never forget how the premiere episode, titled Mother and Children, concluded with an unforgettably shocking scene. So, when a cosplay group decided to recreate that same scene, it got the anime fandom buzzing.

Warning: There are major spoilers for Oshi no Ko ahead, so read with caution.

As shown in the video from a Hong Kong cosplay meet-up below, a group of anime fans at the event taking a photo with a cosplayer dressed as Ai Hoshino, the iconic pop idol introduced in the premiere episode of Oshi no Ko. The clip starts off peacefully but when someone enters the frame dressed as the obsessed stalker who murders Ai in the final scene of the anime's first episode, the scene breaks into choreographed chaos.

The video, shared by Twitter user @reinrinn, quickly became viral. This is the anime's most heartbreaking scene yet, and while it's amusingly painful to see a group of cosplayers recreate this tragic moment, it's a hilarious scene that will make you laugh instead of cry.

Oshi no Ko's extended premiere spent a lot of time developing the character of Ai, the talented idol sensation who also became the young mother of the anime's twin protagonists: Aqua and Ruby Hoshino. Everything looked upbeat and fun with Ai's career skyrocketing and her twins discovering their own talents, until an obsessed fan named Ryosuke somehow managed to enter the her new apartment.

Concealing a knife within a bouquet of white roses, Ryosuke fatally stabbed Ai with the knife with the intent to murder. He then lashed out at the idol, criticizing her choices and blaming her for this tragedy. Due to the killer's subsequent death, the investigation into Ai’s murder ended prematurely, but the anime didn't stop there.

Many viewers who never read the manga before watching the anime were shocked to see Ai -whom many believed as the main character of the story- killed in the premiere episode. Of course, this triggered the mystery plot of the anime as the twins started their mission to uncover the identity of the mysterious mastermind behind their mother's death.

While the first season of Oshi no Ko didn't fully solve that mystery, fans can look forward to more anime episodes as Season 2 has already been confirmed.
