It looks like fans are in for a lot of surprises when Netflix's One Piece Season 2 finally comes out. Aside from Tony Tony Chopper and Smoker the White Hunter, Luffy’s dad, Monkey D. Dragon, may arrive next season if the first season finale hints have anything to go by.

The first season’s post-credit scene showed Smoker puffing his cigar and burning a hole in Luffy’s wanted poster, hinting at his arrival in the next season. Alternatively, the manga creator Eiichro Oda revealed that Chopper would arrive in One Piece Season 2. So, how will Dragon come to the scene?

By the looks of it, Smoker’s debut in the series will set up the arrival of Luffy’s father in the live-action. In the Loguetown Arc, which the series’ second season will adapt, Smoker is eager to capture Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Pirate members. He even brings the Marine forces with him. When he finally catches the optimistic pirate, someone has rescued him, and it’s Dragon, also known as the “World’s Most Dangerous Criminal.”

As this surprises Smoker, he later learns that Dragon is Luffy’s father. So, if Netflix follows this side of the story from Loguetown Arc, there’s a big chance that Dragon will be introduced in One Piece Season 2 at the same time as Smoker.

Another hint that Dragon may appear in One Piece Season 2 is when the newspaper that Kaya reads features the Revolutionary Army. It has been known that the Rebellious Dragon is one of the group’s founding members and even its Supreme Commander. So, if this powerful org comes in the second season, Dragon will probably be with them.

What is One Piece Season 2 about?

Though Netflix has yet to reveal what One Piece Season 2 is officially about, it’s expected to adapt the second saga, Arabasta Saga, of Oda-sensei’s manga. Here, Luffy and his friends stop in Loguetown, where they are about to meet Smoker as they prepare their supplies before they make their way to the Grand Line.

When they arrive on the gigantic sea route, their journey to find One Piece will be stopped when they meet Vivi, a princess exiled from her kingdom of Arabasta. This place has been manipulated by Crocodile, a pirate warlord who has convinced the people of Arabasta that he is their hero, not knowing he secretly controls Baroque Works, a criminal organization.
