As Netflix and the popular American nu metal band Evanescence teased earlier this week, Evanescence's new single, Afterlife, was fully revealed in the new lyric trailer video for the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Devil May Cry, based on the popular action-adventure videogame franchise created by Hideki Kamiya. The melody and lyrics of Afterlife fit well with the haunting themes of the new Devil May Cry anime, and I'm sure fans of Evanescence and rock/metal music would definitely enjoy this new single.
The trailer reveals a lot of action-packed moments of the demon hunter-protagonist Dante fighting enemies with style, just like how he does it in the video games. There are also footages of Dante's sidekick, Mary, wielding guns as she tries to support Dante in their battle against the White Rabbit and his demonic minions. The anime will clearly have a lot of explosive, urban fantasy action that should be exciting to watch. Enjoy Evanescence's Afterlife in the new lyric video below:
Evanescence's Afterlife song, which has an alternate version that will be featured multiple times in the anime series, was co-written by Alex Seaver of Mako and Evanescence’s vocalist, Amy Lee. Co-produced by Nick Raskulinecz and Alex Seaver of Mako, Netflix will release the new single on all audio streaming services at midnight, and the soundtrack album for the anime will be released on April 3, the same day as the series.
Devil May Cry was officially announced by Netflix in September 2024, and Johnny Yong Bosch was revealed to be the voice actor behind the anime's demon hunter protagonist, Dante. The additional English dub cast includes Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Chris Coppola as Enzo, the late Kevin Conroy as VP Baines in a posthumous role, and Hoon Lee as White Rabbit.
The cast of Devil May Cry's Japanese dub includes:
Toshiyuki Morikawa as Dante
Fumiko Orikasa as Lady
Hiroaki Hirata as Vergil
Netflix's anime adaptation of Devil May Cry is a collaboration between Capcom, Studio Mir, and Adi Shankar, the executive producer behind the Judge Dredd remake Dredd, the Castlevania animated series, and other critically-acclaimed Netflix shows such as The Guardians of Justice and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. Limp Bizkit's hit song Rollin' is featured in the anime's opening sequence.
What is the Devil May Cry anime about?
Hideki Kamiya's Devil May Cry games are mostly developed and published by Capcom. The urban fantasy series follows the demon hunter Dante and his efforts to vanquish various demons who invade Earth. The franchise currently has 6 entries, with several collections and remasters. Netflix shared an official synopsis for Devil May Cry anime:
Meet Dante: a half-human, half-demon, hunter for hire and carefree owner of the Devil May Cry agency. A mysterious woman named Trish approaches him one day with news of the king of the underworld making a grand return from banishment to wreak havoc on the world. Brandishing his father’s sword Force Edge and trusty guns Ebony & Ivory, he sets out to defeat the demon king, the one responsible for the death of his family.
The first TV anime adaptation for Devil May Cry was released in June 2007. It ran for 12 episodes, and focused on Dante's daily life as a demon hunter. The new Devil May Cry anime is set to premiere on Netflix on April 3, 2025.
