Netflix & WIT Studio's Moonrise Anime Reveals Trailer, Key Visual & More Cast

The trailer for Moonrise anime was released ahead of its premiere next month!

At Netlfix's AnimeJapan 2025 stage event today, Netflix has released a brand new trailer and key visual for its upcoming original sci-fi anime series, Moonrise, along with thirteen addition voice cast members. Studio WIT produced the animation of Moonrise, which stars Chiaki Kobayashi (Gabimaru in Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku) stars as protagonist Jack and Yuto Uemura (Atsushi in Bungo Stray Dogs) as Phil Ashe, Jack's childhood friend. The anime is scheduled to premiere on April 10.

The new trailer for Moonrise highlights the intense clashes in space and previews the main theme song of the anime, Daijoubu by AiNA THE END. Check out the key visual for the anime below:

The staff includes Masashi Koizuka (THE ONE PIECE) as the director and series composer, based on the story by Tow Ubukata (Bye Bye, Earth); Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist) as the character designer, with character designs adapted for animation by Ayumi Yamada and music composed by Ryo Kawasaki

What is Moonrise anime about?

Moonrise is based on the sci-fi novel by Tow Ubukata. Netflix shared an official story description for the anime:

In a not-too-distant future, humanity has established a loosely organized world government with everything managed by an international AI network called Sapientia. People live peaceful lives by loyally obeying its rational decisions. However, Sapientia’s lunar development project, which sends criminals and pollutants to the Moon to maintain Earth’s peace, creates disparity and poverty on the Moon, sparking a catalyst for war. Jacob "Jack" Shadow gets caught up in this conflict after losing his family to a terrorist bombing by the Moon's rebel army. Vowing revenge, Jack joins the Earth army as a scout on the Moon, only to discover an unexpected leader among the resistance forces.
