A new generation of spies is coming to Spy Kids: Armageddon. Once again, Netflix teamed up with Robert Rodriguez to reboot the family spy franchise with brand new characters fans are about to meet. New spy parents, played by Gina Rodriguez and Zachary Levi, need the help of their kids, Connor Esterson and Everly Carganilla, after “something has gone terribly wrong.”

Netflix officially released the first trailer for Spy Kids: Armageddon, showing Rodriguez and Levi in action. Twelve years after the release of Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 2011, a new adventure, complete with high-tech gadgets, planes, and the return of the iconic black jumpsuits and sunglasses, is about to begin in this Netflix reboot.

Just like in the original Spy Kids movie, the young spies will find themselves tasked to save their parents after failing a mission. In the clip, the kids found their parents’ secret spy hideout and saw a hologram of their mom, telling them that something has turned bad if they’ve already found the recorded video.

An intense turn of events is seen, from Levi and Rodriguez’s action-packed scenes to the kids in iconic black suits preparing to save their mom and dad. Aside from the main cast, the trailer also introduces Carganilla’s new “favorite thing in the world,” a robotic yellow spider.

Read Spy Kids: Armageddon’s official synopsis below:

When the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, they must become spies themselves to save their parents and the world," reads an official logline for the movie.

Is Spy Kids: Armageddon Connected to Other Spy Kids Movies?

“That's top secret,” Rodriguez, who also worked with Netflix for the family-friendly superhero movie We Can Be Heroes in 2020, told People whether Spy Kids: Armageddon is connected to other Spy Kids movies. Though he chooses to remain mum about it, he revealed that reboot will “ring more true” today “than it did 20 years ago.”

Regarding the cast, the director, who is also behind the four original Spy Kids films, described Rodriguez and Levi as “wonderful together,” while the new Spy Kids are “simply magical.” “They are super talented and very fun to watch,” he continued.

Many are now on the lookout for Rodriguez’s new take on this iconic family movie after its announcement in January 2021. As anticipation is now high, fans hope the film delivers. Spy Kids: Armageddon will be released on September 22 on Netflix.
