With the success of the live-action adaptations of One Piece, YuYu Hakusho, and the recently released Parasyte: The Grey, Netflix has done it again with the upcoming City Hunter. Though it wouldn’t be the first time it would be seen in a non-animated form, with the release of Lee Min-ho’s K-drama of the same title in 2011 and several films, it would be its first-ever Japanese live-action movie. So, to give fans a glimpse of this new adaptation, the streamer has dropped its official trailer, promising a wild experience of Tsukasa Hojo’s legendary manga.
You can see the preview below:
The City Hunter trailer begins by playing its ending theme song, Get Wild Continual by TM Network, a new version of the anime’s iconic first ending theme, Get Wild, by the same band. As it shows the busy streets of Tokyo, it then introduces the main character, Ryo Saeba, who is holding a gun. The action-packed scenes begin as Hideyuki Makimura reprimands Ryo for not having a Plan A. But as Hideyuki gets killed while investigating the disappearance of the famous cosplayer Kurumi with Ryo, his sister, Kaori Makimura, starts to question his sudden death, the reason, and who’s behind the killing.
This starts an unlikely alliance between Ryo and Kaori. But while doing so, Ryo learns that the mysterious drug “Angel Dust” has something to do with the series of violent incidents happening in Shinjuku. This drug was once used in warfare, and it turns out that Kurumi is the key they’re looking for to know the truth behind Angel Dust. As this results in one mysterious event to another, Ryo tells Kaori that it’s “time for revenge.”
Little did Ryo know that a group of soldiers would stop them. But to avoid being caught, he pretends they’re Uber Eats delivery men. However, this doesn’t stop the militaries from opening fire on them, with Kaori repeating her brother’s line to Ryo. “You never had a Plan A,” she squeals.
Netflix has also released a new visual for City Hunter. It shows Ryo holding his gun and is ready for action at the center while the siblings Hideyuki and Kaori stand on each side.
