Today, Netflix has released a new trailer and visual for the My Oni Girl original fantasy anime film, which is scheduled to premiere simultaneously on the streaming service (globally) and Japanese theaters on May 24, 2024. Studio Colorido and Twin Engine are producing the movie's animation, with Tomotaka Shibayama directing the film. The trailer previews the Zutomayo theme song titled Truth in Lies. In addition to the trailer and visual reveals, more cast members were announced, including Shintaro Asanuma, Aya Yamane, Shiro Saito, Mio Tanaka, Tomoko Shiota, Satsuki Yukino, Shozo Sasaki, Satoshi Mikami, Hisako Kyoda, and Noriko Hidaka. The previouslyannounced cast are Kensho Ono as Hiiragi Yatsuse, and Miyu Tomita as Tsumugi.
What is My Oni Girl about?
My Oni Girl is a part of Studio Colorido's three-movie deal with Netflix; the first was Drifting Home (2022). Before these two movies, Netflix streamed Studio Colorido-produced A Whisker Away in 2020.
Netflix shared a plot description for My Oni Girl:
My Oni Girl tells the story of Hiiragi Yatsuse, a first-year high school student who struggles to make friends despite his efforts to please others. His life takes an unexpected turn when one summer day, he meets Tsumugi, an oni (demon) girl on a quest to find her mother in the human world. Snow mysteriously begins to fall… and their adventure begins.
