
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, the new spin-off to Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia series, premieres today alongside new wave of releases for the Spring 2025 anime lineup. Its prequel story, based on writer Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrator Betten Court's manga series, takes place five years before the events of Horikoshi's main series, following a new hero named Koichi Haimawari. Crunchyroll has confirmed that the English dub for the new series is getting a simultaneous release.

Studio BONES is animating the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes anime, which is directed by Kenichi Suzuki (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure chief director). Yosuke Kuroda (My Hero Academia) is in charge of the series composition while Takahiko Yoshida (Cells at Work!) is handling the character designs. Yuki Hayashi, Shogo Yamashira and Yuki Furuhashi are composing the music for the anime.

Both the original Japanese version (with English subtitles) and the official English dub of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 1 were released today, April 7, on Crunchyroll. The spin-off series is reportedly going to run for a total of 13 episodes throughout the Spring 2025 anime season, and a new episode is expected to premiere weekly. What is My Hero Academia: Vigilantes about?
Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court's My Hero Academia: Vigilantes manga series was first published in Jump GIGA in August 2016 before transferring to Shonen Jump+ later that year. The spin-off series has ended in May 2022 and its chapters have been collected in 15 volumes. The English version of the manga was published by VIZ Media.

Koichi Haimawari is a dull college student who aspires to be a hero but has given up on his dream. Although 80% of the world’s population has superhuman powers called Quirks, few are chosen to become heroes and protect people.
