The staff of Mr. Villain's Day Off anime includes Yoshinori Odaka (BEM) as director, Tomomi Shimazaki (A Couple of Cuckoos sub-character designer) as character designer, Midori Gotou (Smile of the Arsnotoria the Animation) as series composer, and Nobuaki Nobusawa (Police in a Pod) as music composer. The anime is being co-produced by Shin-Ei Animation and SynergySP.

The anime is based on the Square Enix-published manga by Yuu Morikawa, which started serialization on Gangan Prixiv in 2018 and as of April 2023, it has five tankoubon volumes
Manga Up! provided the synopsis for Mr. Villain's Day Off:
An Evil Organization from another planet is trying to take over Earth. An extraterrestrial from that organization named the “General” tirelessly fights against Earth’s defenders every single day in a battle of life and death! However, today is his day off.
