The Master of Magnetism reportedly has a frontrunner in Marvel's X-Men movie, and his daughter may not be far behind.

Marvel's X-Men movie reportedly has a frontrunner for its Magneto, and it is not one of the names fans have been fantasy-casting for years. Morgan Spector is reportedly being seriously eyed for the role of Erik Lehnsherr, though Marvel Studios has not confirmed any talks.

The claim comes from Cartier Films, which reported that Spector is being seriously eyed for Magneto and that the studio really wants him for the role. The report is unconfirmed, and no trade outlet has corroborated it so far.

Spector is best known as George Russell in HBO's The Gilded Age, with earlier roles in The Plot Against America, Person of Interest and Suits. If the report holds, he would take over a role defined on screen by Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender, and his casting would point to a younger Magneto than audiences are used to.

Magneto is rarely a simple villain in the X-Men stories, and the role usually anchors the films around him. He is a Holocaust survivor whose fear of mutant persecution drives him into conflict with his old friend Charles Xavier, which makes the part as much a dramatic lead as an antagonist.

The same report ties a second mutant to the film, and the pairing is hard to ignore. Cailee Spaeny reportedly auditioned for Polaris, the magnetic mutant whose real name is Lorna Dane, and is expected to appear in the movie in some capacity.

Spaeny broke out as the lead of Alien: Romulus and has been linked to Marvel roles in earlier reports as well. An audition is not a casting, and the post stops short of saying she has the Polaris part — only that she read for it and is expected to appear in the film somehow.

Polaris is Magneto's daughter in the comics, which would give Marvel a direct family line into the Master of Magnetism if both reports hold. The post also claims Kitty Pryde has already been cast for the film, without naming the actor — a separate thread from earlier reporting that linked Spaeny herself to the Kitty Pryde role.

None of the claims has been confirmed by Marvel, and casting reports this early have shifted before. Spector's representatives have not commented, and the studio has kept its X-Men plans quiet beyond the announcements already made.

If Spector does land the role, he would join a cast that already includes Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. Ben Wang is also in talks to play Iceman, in a deal that has not closed.
