Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved is coming to theaters in Japan this June!

Fans of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid have a lot to look forward to as Kyoto Animation has just released an exciting new trailer for the upcoming anime film, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved. The trailer, released today, gives a glimpse into the heartfelt story and introduces the film’s opening theme song, Parade of Tears, performed by the popular Japanese pop band fhána. The anime film is scheduled to release in Japanese theaters on June 27.

The trailer showcases the signature blend of humor, heart, and vibrant animation that has made the Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid series a beloved staple in the anime community. With wonderful visuals and an emotionally charged soundtrack, the film promises to dive deeper into the lives of Tohru, Kobayashi, and their quirky dragon companions. The song Parade of Tears sets a poignant tone, hinting at the film's focus on themes of love, belonging, and connection.

Kyoto Animation, known for its meticulous attention to detail and emotional storytelling, is once again at the helm of this project. The studio’s return to the Dragon Maid universe has generated significant buzz, especially after the success of the anime’s previous seasons. Tatsuya Ishihara (Sound! Euphonium) directed the anime film, and Yuka Yamada wrote its script. Miku Kadowaki served as character designer and chief animation director. The late Yasuhiro Takemoto, who passed away in the 2019 arson attack on Kyoto Animation, is credited as series director. Other staff members include:

What is Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid about?

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid series is based on the reverse isekai slife-of-life fantasy comedy manga series by Coolkyousinnjya. It started serialization in Futabasha's Monthly Action magazine since May 2013 until 2024 when it was transferred to Manga Action after Monthly Action discontinued. The manga inspired various spin-offs, including Elma’s Office Lady DiaryKanna’s Daily Life, Lucoa is My XX, and Fafnir the Recluse, all of which were serialized in Monthly Action before being transferred to Web Action.

Crunchyroll shared a story description of the overall Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid series reads:

Miss Kobayashi is your average office worker who lives a boring life, alone in her small apartment–until she saves the life of a female dragon in distress. The dragon, named Tohru, has the ability to magically transform into an adorable human girl (albeit with horns and a long tail!), who will do anything to pay off her debt of gratitude, whether Miss Kobayashi likes it or not. With a very persistent and amorous dragon as a roommate, nothing comes easy, and Miss Kobayashi’s normal life is about to go off the deep end!
