Apocalypse is back in the upcoming X-Men Red #17, and he's gathering some brand-new Horsemen. The former X-Men villain has been gone since he returned with his family to Amenth after the X of Swords event, but now that he has returned, he found out that his wife, Genesis, is raging war on Arakko. Storm and her Brotherhood Mutants are putting up a fight, but it looks like it will be up to Apocalypse and his brand-new Horsemen to shake things up.
Marvel has released a preview for the upcoming X-Men Red #17 written by Al Ewing and illustrated by Yildiray Cinar. It kicks off with a showdown between Apocalypse and Vulcan (Gabriel Summers), with Apocalypse confronting Vulcan about being one of his new Horsemen. Apocalypse may have freed Vulcan from his prison, but he used his power to chain Vulcan to him, forcing him to do his bidding. Vulcan used to be a king, so of course, he doesn't like being manipulated, but Apocalypse is in control.
There's a big twist to how Apocalypse is naming his new Horsemen. Instead of naming them after their biblical counterparts, he is doing something different. To combat his wife Genesis, he needs magical elements: fire, air, earth, and water, with Vulcan possibly being the Horseman of Water or Air. It's possible that Storm could be the one for Air, but Apocalypse teases that she's no mere ingredient in the magic; "Ororo is the magic," he says.
