Two developers at Insomniac Games who worked on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 recently talked about the possibility of Carnage appearing in the game’s future instalment. As plenty of Spider-Man 2 players have already jumped into the game ever since its release, many questions have come up regarding Insomniac’s plans for the next game in the Spider-Man series.
As of right now, there has been no news from either PlayStation or Insomniac Games about a new Spider-Man video game, but the way in which Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 comes to an end definitely opens up many possibilities for the next game. The possibility of Carnage appearing is among some of those possibilities, who might be featured as an antagonist in the future.
By the end of one of the sidequests in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Cletus Kasaday shows up and gets the symbiote that eventually transforms him into Carnage. While Carnage isn’t really seen in the game, Insomniac Games’ narrative director, Ben Arfmann, claimed in an interview with io9 that the studio will be interested in adding him to the universe at some point and in some way. Arfmann said:
On the other hand, writer Brittney Morris explained that when it comes to Spider-Man 2, the developers deemed it necessary to keep the focus on Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Venom. Arfmann said:
There has been one fan theory that has been going around, which is that if Carnage does show up in this series, it might be through a DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Currently, Insomniac Games hasn’t confirmed or denied anything regarding a DLC or if it’ll even happen in the game. However, Marvel’s Spider-Man did receive some post-launch content, so fingers crossed.
Regardless, Arfmann’s comments make it seem like Carnage would be a villain that Insomniac Games plans on exploring a lot more in a follow-up game or storyline instead of making him a part of a short Spider-Man 2 DLC. We sure hope the developers plan on revealing something soon regarding the character! However, it looks like Insomniac Games is currently focusing more on Marvel’s Wolverine.
