A fan recently shared an updated timeline, placing all the comics and games from Marvel’s Spider-Man universe in chronological order before Spider-Man 2’s launch. In 2018, Insomniac Games put their own charm in the Marvel Comics mythos with the game Marvel’s Spider-Man. The game follows the story of Peter as he faces the most dangerous enemies and struggles to overcome his own physical and emotional stress of protecting New York City, a mission that never seems to end.
Marvel’s Spider-Man became quite popular in no time, with some record-breaking sales numbers, owing to its amazing writing and open-world gameplay. The story then continues in 2020’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, following the story of the teenager as he learns to become a real superhero. However, this is not the end of Insomniac Games’ epic Marvel gaming world.
Multiple tie-in Marvel comics build bridges between different games, and Peter Parker from Earth-1048 was even introduced in 2018’s Spider-Geddon crossover event. All of these games and tie-in comics can make it pretty challenging for players to identify which game or comic comes first in continuity. However, a user on Reddit known as CanadianWaffleHouse compiled a timeline featuring almost all of the stories in the universe.
This timeline features the recent prequel comics for Marvel’s Spider-Man 1, Hostile Takeover prequel novel, and the Velocity series featuring the unlockable Velocity Suit of Peter Parker from the very first game. However, the universe timeline of the Spider-Man game that was shared by CanadianWaffleHouse has a couple of omissions, which they have explained in the post.
They did not include Marvel’s Spider-Man: City At War and Black Cat Strikes comic books since they were only retellings of the very first game and its City That Never Sleeps DLC. Moreover, they explained that they did not include Peter Parker’s latest cameo in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse since it was only a cameo.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which is set to release as a PS5 exclusive, will continue the story of Peter Parker and Miles Morales. The first two Insomniac Spider-Man games feature a couple of plot threads, such as the appearance of Venom in the Insomniac universe. So, the sequel is going to cover that and will also include some references to the tie-in Marvel’s Spider-Man comic books. So, players can use this timeline to catch up on the entire story of Marvel’s Spider-Man before the Insomniac sequel releases.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to release exclusively on PS5 on October 20, 2023.
