Marvel Rivals, the Overwatch-inspired 6v6 team-based superhero shooter from NetEase, has revealed that it will hold a cross-play closed beta on PC and console starting on July 23, 2024. This means that players on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S will be able to join during the closed beta that will run from 6 p.m. ET on that day through August 5 at 3 a.m. ET. The beta will be open to gamers in North America, Asia, and Europe, with support for nine languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, Brazilian, and Portuguese. and those selected will be given access to test out the game's cross-play with other versions.

If you wan to participate on console, you will have to fill out a questionnaire, and wait for an email to see if they've been selected. You can find the questionnaire right here. Participants who take the questionnaire will be asked questions about their familiarity with PvP shooters, as well as Marvel comic books, movies, and TV shows. Presumably, the developers of the game are also looking for people knowledgeable about the characters and the genre, but they might also want to test the reactions of people less familiar, as well. On July 20, there will be an option to request access on the Marvel Rivals Steam page, and "those selected will be promptly notified."

NetEase didn't reveal how many participants they need for the Marvel Rivals test, but they specifically mentioned that they're testing cross-play, so we can expect that they want a good mix of players from various platforms, so if you're interested in signing up, you may want to do it sooner, rather than later.

What to Expect in Marvel Rivals Closed Beta

The closed beta will include 21 playable characters, with a roster that includes Spider-Man, Iron Man, Magneto, Loki, Venom, Doctor Strange, Luna Snow, Groot, Mantis, Magik, Peni Parker, Hela, Namor, Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord, Storm, Scarlet Witch, Black Panther, Punisher, and Adam Warlock. That's the entire roster announced so far, so participants will be able to test out all the playable characters in the closed beta.

The available maps will be Yggsgard: Royal Palace, Yggsgard: Yggdrasill Path, Tokyo 2099: Spider-Islands, and Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya. There will be three modes available: Convoy, Domination, and Convergence.
