Earlier this month, one of the most exciting announcements from the Nintendo Direct event was the one about the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, which will feature a compilation of seven of Capcom's iconic super-powered fighting games headlined by Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes. The announcement came as a surprise after years of being held back by licensing fees and rights agreements. In the latest episode of The Official Marvel Podcast, Laura Hathaway, the Product Development Manager at Marvel Games, was asked how the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection came to be, and while she didn't share specific details about the deal with Capcom, she did talk about why the project was "exciting" for Marvel Games.
Hathaway said that Marvel Games wanted to "surprise" and "delight" Marvel fans with the fighting game bundle:
This is definitely great news for fans of the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise as there just haven't been a lot of ways to play these fighting games on newer hardware outside of the Arcade1Up cabinet. While it would seem that Marvel's goal of delighting fans was truly accomplished, despite the positive reactions from fighting game enthusiasts, the lack of Xbox Series X/S release plans sparked frustration among gamers.
What games will the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection have?
The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is confirmed to consist of the following games:
X-Men: Children of the Atom
Marvel Super Heroes
X-Men vs. Street Fighter
Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
The Punisher
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics will be available for PC (via Steam), Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 (It'll also be playable on the PS5). The collection is confirmed to release sometime this year, but no exact release date has been revealed yet. You can watch the official announcement video below:
