tvN’s hit K-drama, Lovely Runner, is coming to Netflix. After its successful airing from April to May 2024 in South Korea, international fans will soon witness the love story of Byeon Woo-seok’s Ryu Sun-Jae and Kim Hye-Yoon's Im Sol as destiny brings them together. To celebrate its coming to the streamer, Netflix has dropped its preview stills, giving a good look at the titular characters and its upcoming streaming release date of August 1.
Netflix’s stills for Lovely Runner focus on Woo-seok and Hye-yoon, perfectly capturing their emotions as love begins to brew between them. Hye-yoon protects Woo-seok from the rain by sharing her umbrella with him while holding a box, which he seemingly delivers for her. The two are seen together in what looks like a photo booth, while the next still features Hye-yoon holding Woo-seok’s drink for him at an event.
Woo-seok kisses Hye-yoon’s hand, which makes the latter blush. A single still of Woo-seok shows him in uniform, while the other features a day-dreaming Hye-yoon while working on her assignments in front of her computer. The couple looks happy together as they tend to the garden while looking at each other’s eyes. For the final still, Woo-seok now returns the favor and shares his umbrella with Hye-yoon amid the rain, but this time, they appear emotional.

What is Lovely Runner about?
Lovely Runner tells the story of Im Sol, an avid fan of idol Ryu Sun-jae. After getting into an accident that turns her life around, forcing her to leave behind her dream of being a film director, she finds solace in listening to Sun-jae’s music. However, as Sun-jae dies of suicide, Sol is once again devastated. But destiny has its own plans, as Sol finds herself in a classroom with Sun-jae 15 years in the past, making her decide to change their fates forever.

The series follows the journey of Im Sol, an ardent fan of idol Ryu Sun-jae. Sol, a once-promising film director whose dreams were shattered by an accident leaving her paralyzed, finds solace in the music of Sun-jae. However, tragedy strikes again when Sun-jae dies by suicide, devastating Sol. But fate has other plans as Sol wakes up in a classroom 15 years in the past. Seeing this as a chance from Heaven, she vows to change the course of destiny for both of them.
The series is based on Kim Bbang's web novel Tomorrow’s Best, which Doong Doong also adapted into a webtoon in September 2021. It’s directed by Yoon Jong-ho (Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, My Holo Love, Flower of Evil) and written by Lee Shi-eun (True Beauty). The show also streams on TVING in South Korea, U-Next in Japan, Vidio in Indonesia, and Viki and Viu in selected regions.
Lovely Runner may have received modest viewership ratings in South Korea, but it has garnered positive reviews from fans and critics alike that helped Woo-seok’s rise to stardom and sealed Hye-yoon’s reputation as an actress in the industry. That said, the series may have the potential to be part of Netflix’s global top 10 non-English TV list when it is finally released.
