Fans of the detective extraordinaire Benoit Blanc, celebrate! Daniel Craig will soon return to the small screen to investigate another round of mysterious death in Knives Out 3. A year after the Knives Out follow-up, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, confused everyone about who the real killer was, its next installment finally gets a production update.
According to Deadline, the whodunit movie series creator Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s T-Street production has signed on Katie McNeill to be part of the company as a producer. She will work in the studio’s film department with other producers, Ben LeClair, Leopold Hughes, and Nikos Karamigios. From there, it’s later revealed that T-Street is gearing up to work on Knives Out 3, and it will be in production later this year.
Johnson will once again write and direct the third installment of the Benoit Blanc franchise. Of course, Craig will return to reprise his role as the world’s greatest detective.
What to Expect from Knives Out 3
Though details about Knives Out 3 remain scarce, Bergman, who produced Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery with Johnson in 2022, earlier told ComicBook that Knives Out 3 would be “very, very different” from the first two movies. The Israeli film producer recalled how fast Johnson did the 2019 Netflix film, writing it in January and filming it by the end of October. That said, the Star Wars: The Last Jedi director is “very motivated” to do the third film as quickly as possible.
“We'll see how fast he is, but this is gonna be a challenge,” Bergman said. “It's gonna be a bigger challenge. So, we'll see how long it's gonna take.”
Alternatively, Johnson told TheWrap that Knives Out 3 is coming along after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes end. Like any other TV and movie projects in development last year, the works for the third mystery film were halted due to the Hollywood strikes.
“I obviously couldn't work during the strike, and now that it's over, I'm diving in full force, and so it's coming along,” he said.
Johnson revealed that he already had the premise, the setting, and what Knives Out 3 would be about in his head, and it was just a matter of writing it. He also told Insider that the third movie would be set in the U.S. after bringing Benoit Blanc to Greece in the second film. Though he felt tempted to do the next movie in Paris or the Alps, he wanted to make it somewhere “a little closer to home.”
Are you excited to see Knives Out 3? What mystery do you think it will feature this time? Whatever the case is, Benoit Blanc can surely solve it with his wits and genius without breaking a sweat. Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery are available to stream on Netflix.
