Kafka Hibino has proven that he doesn’t need to be a member of the Japan Defense Force to bravely face a monster and defend people when he saves Reno Ichikawa from a beast’s attack. But in an unexpected twist of fate, the anime’s premiere episode saw him transformed into a kaiju himself after a mysterious parasite entered his mouth. In the new preview stills for Kaiju No. 8 Episode 2, titled A Monster that Defeats Monsters, Kafka will fight a monster for the first time after his surprising transformation.
The Kaiju No. 8 Episode 2 stills give a glimpse of the monster Kafka has to fight and the other characters that are about to be introduced. They start with the newly transformed Kafka as he escapes the hospital in the middle of the night after his transformation. As he does so, he meets a gigantic creature that puts the city of Japan in danger, which results in an intense battle.
The next still features two other Monster Sweeper Inc. workers with Reno as the latter reads a letter. It’s followed by a glimpse of Kikoru Shinomiya and Kafka, and the two seem to be having a heated discussion. For the last preview, Kikoru, the daughter of Defense Force Director General Isao Shinomiya and a Third Division member, is seen wearing her Defense Force uniform.

What to Expect from Kaiju No. 8 Episode 2
Kaiju No. 8 Episode 2 will see the aftermath of Kafka’s transformation into a monster. To avoid being captured by the Defense Force after a patient sees him, he flees the hospital with Reno. However, as he goes out and about, he sees a parent and a child in danger while being attacked by a monster. Of course, Kafka never thinks twice and fights the monster by punching it with all his might.

The anime is based on the manga of the same title by Naoya Matsumoto. It has been serialized for free on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ app and website since July 2020. It has collected 12 tankobon volumes and has over 13 million copies in circulation as of April 2024. Viz Media has licensed it in English in North America. It has been adapted into anime by Production I.G, premiering in April 2024.
