
Kaiju No. 8 is getting ready for a major comeback this year with its upcoming Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon omnibus film releasing in theaters next month and the second season of the TV anime adaptation arriving this summer. Now, TOHO Animation has released a new character trailer to recap the first season, and this time, it's all about Captain Soshiro Hoshina.
The latest character trailer highlights Soshiro's fighting prowess and his swordsmanship while reminding us of his goofy personality. He is a member of the Hoshina family, a renowned clan of swordsmen from the Muromachi period, and we can expect more action-packed scenes showcasing his swordsmanship in the omnibus film and Season 2 this year. Production I.G, which animated the first season, will return to animate Kaiju No. 8 Season 2, with character designs and artworks by Studio Khara. The first season was directed by Shigeyuki Miya, with Ichiro Okouchi in charge of the series composition and screenplay. Tetsuya Nishio served as the chief animation director and character designer, Mahiro Maeda was the monster designer, Shinji Kimura was the art director, and Yuta Bando was the music composer.
What is Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon about?
The Kaiju No. 8 anime is based on the manga series of the same title (Japanese: Kaijū Hachigō) by Naoya Matsumoto. The science fantasy series began serialization on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ and as of December 2023, the chapters have been collected in 12 volumes. Viz Media publishes the official English version of the manga in North America.
The Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon omnibus movie will feature an official recap of Kaiju No. 8 Season 1, followed by an original new episode titled Hoshina's Day Off. OneRepublic is performing the new ending theme song, Invincible, which will also debut in the film. Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon is scheduled to premiere in Japan on March 28, with screenings in theaters in North America scheduled for April 13,14, and 16.
