Jo A-ram has been injured while preparing for an action scene for TVING's noir action series The Obedient Killer, and she has been taken to a hospital for examination and treatment. The role is one of the most physically demanding of her career, placing her inside a three-woman assassin team led by Kim Da-mi and Jo Bo-ah.
In an exclusive report published on October 30, Ilgan Sports said the actress was hurt during preparations for an action scene on the series. Her agency addressed the incident in a statement to the outlet, saying, “Following medical advice that she needs rest, she will take some time off to focus on treatment and recovery.”
The agency added that Jo A-ram's upcoming filming schedule will be adjusted in consultation with the production team after her recovery progress has been assessed. No details about the nature of the injury have been disclosed, and no date has been set for her return to the production.
The injury has also forced a change to her public schedule beyond the drama set. Jo A-ram had been set to attend the 2026 Korea Grand Music Awards as a presenter, but she will no longer be able to appear at the event, which takes place at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on November 7 and 8.
In The Obedient Killer, Jo A-ram plays “Miss Gye,” the mood-maker and troublemaker of the assassin trio at the center of the story. Nicknamed the “Fighting Chicken,” Miss Gye is the group's most unpredictable member, whose restless energy keeps even her own teammates guessing.
The series follows Go Dal-bun, played by Kim Da-mi, a woman whose only life plan was to be a devoted wife and mother. After her divorce, she takes an unexpected job with a suspicious organization in a bid to regain custody of her young daughter, and discovers a hidden talent she never knew she had.
It is not the first time an injury has reshaped this production, after the role of team leader “Miss Lee” changed hands before the full cast was confirmed. Jo Bo-ah stepped into that role after Lee Chung-ah withdrew following a car accident that aggravated a pre-existing back condition, making the drama's numerous action scenes difficult for her to handle.
Behind the camera, director Lee Jung-heum, known for Inspector Koo, leads the production from a script by Joo Hwa-mi, the writer of The Atypical Family. Kang Eun-kyung, the writer of Gyeongseong Creature, serves as the series' creator.
Away from the TVING production, Jo A-ram is currently appearing in KBS2's Saturday-Sunday drama A Love Other Than Yours as Park Soo-ah. Her performance there, as a confident employee who openly expresses her feelings for Namgoong Ho, played by Seo Kang-joon, while standing up to corruption inside her company, has drawn praise from viewers.
The Obedient Killer is scheduled to premiere on TVING in 2027, with Kim Da-mi, Jo Bo-ah, Jo A-ram, Kim Jae-wook and Nam Yoon-su leading the confirmed cast. For now, the production's schedule will be shaped around its cast member's health, with Jo A-ram's recovery coming before any revised filming plans are set.
