Netflix has renewed Haunted Hotel for a third season, just three weeks after the animated horror-comedy returned for its second season. The renewal keeps the doors of the Undervale open for another round of ghostly check-ins.
The pickup was announced on October 30, following a Season 2 debut on the streamer's Global English TV Top 10 list and a first season that has passed 15 million views since its September 2025 release. Creator and showrunner Matt Roller welcomed the news in a statement, promising that "Season three is full of the biggest, funniest, scariest, saddest, and Abaddoniest stories we've ever told."
The new season is further along than most renewals, because the writing is already finished. Roller revealed earlier this month on The Bulwark Goes to Hollywood podcast that the writers' room had completed the Season 3 scripts before Netflix made the call, leaving the team "ready to hit the ground running."
Roller has said the first two seasons worked through the obvious horror staples, from possessions and slashers to a monster hunter, and that Season 3 leans into original concept episodes built specifically around the Undervale and its residents. He is also aiming to keep the show on its annual spooky-season cycle.
The series follows single mother Katherine Freeling, voiced by Eliza Coupe, as she tries to run the world's most haunted hotel with help from her ghost brother Nathan, voiced by Will Forte. Her kids Ben and Esther are voiced by Skyler Gisondo and Natalie Palamides, and Jimmi Simpson voices Abaddon, an ancient demon trapped in the body of a young boy.
Season 2 ended on an unusually reflective note, with the finale "The Visit" digging into Nathan's life before he became a ghost — an episode that played like a possible farewell before the renewal arrived. The season also introduced occult detective Dante Crowe, voiced by Troy Baker, a character the writers have teased could return.
Roller executive produces alongside Chris McKenna, Dan Harmon and Steve Levy, with Erica Hayes as supervising director and Titmouse handling the animation. The creative team brings deep Rick and Morty ties, with Roller, Harmon and Hayes all veterans of that series.
Season 3 is planned to run 10 episodes, matching the first season, though Netflix has not confirmed the count. Haunted Hotel Season 3 will premiere on Netflix in 2027, with Seasons 1 and 2 — 18 episodes in all — streaming now.
