When the Stars Gossip is one of the most highly-anticipated South Korean drama titles coming to Netflix next month, and it will surely kick off the year for K-drama fans who are craving for a compelling romance story and interstellar adventure. The tvN series also boasts stunning visuals and a star-studded cast that include rom-com icons Lee Min-ho and Kong Hyo-jin. In When the Stars Gossip, space station commander Eve Kim (Gong Hyo-jin) meets Gong Ryong (Lee Min-ho), a tourist who has arrived at the space station with a secret mission. There's clearly a love story between them, but there are also other characters involved in their space adventure.
For instance, Han Ji-eun will play Choi-Go-un, a beautiful and intelligent CEO of MZ Electronics. Although he's a competent executive who's considered to be everyone's type, she has distanced herself from love. Now, Han Ji-eun recently talked about her character while speaking to Naver (via Soompi).
Han Ji-eun described her character Choi Go-eun as "a magnificent modern woman, the heir to the giant MZ Group, with great abilities, but deep down, she harbors pain from her personal life as well as a thirst for love.”
She went on to talk about the experience to portraying different sides of her personality:
While acting, I tried to perfectly embody all sides of her. Since she is someone who strives to keep her work and personal life separate, I portrayed her as proud and confident in her professional life while highlighting her pure-hearted nature in matters of love. I wanted to express the human side of a character who is admired by everyone but harbors pain on the inside.
Han Ji-eun also explainedher approach to styling her CEO character:
To emphasize her charisma as CEO Choi Go-eun, the heir of MZ Electronics, I used strong and sharp outfit styles. Since she’s a proud person who hides her wounds, I opted for vibrant primary colors and sleek, straight hair to maintain a polished look. I paid close attention to every detail, from attires to hairstyles, so viewers can feel the character’s essence even in the smallest details.”
The 37-year-old actress went on to talk about how When the Stars Gossip depicts the lives of ordinary people, and despite its "glamorous" space setting, viewers will find human elements in the story:
Many might expect ‘When the Stars Gossip’ to be glamorous since it’s set in space and MZ Group serves as the backdrop, but it’s actually a human drama that depicts ordinary people’s lives. If you watch it with the thought that you’ll find human elements amidst the grand-scale events, you’ll enjoy it even more.
