It has been almost a year since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stunned fans with a beautiful ending to the movie trilogy. However, many still hope the intergalactic mercenaries will return for another epic adventure in the galaxy. And though viewers may have seen the last of Gamora in this movie, its star, Zoe Saldaña, believes the former Zehoberei assassin isn’t “gone for good” yet, and the franchise can continue.

Saldaña has officially stepped down from playing the role of Gamora after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. And though it may be the end of her time as the Guardians’ member, her character still has a chance to continue if a new actress will play the role.

“I mean, so far, I think that she is [gone for good] for me, but I don't think Gamora has gone for good,” she told The Playlist’s Discourse podcast.

The third movie served as the final installment of the franchise and the last film of James Gunn for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he now put his focus on building the new DC Universe. However, Saldaña was convinced it would be a huge loss for Marvel Studios if it didn’t bring the group back to the big screen.

“It's just such a fan-favorite group of misfits, you know?” she explained. “And then at the helm, they had a voice like James Gunn's writing — which is just so marvelous for and very specific for this genre. And it's so great for this genre as well.”

That said, despite announcing her departure from the franchise, the 45-year-old revealed she would be the first to celebrate the potential return of Guardians of the Galaxy. Sadly, there are no words yet about whether this group of superheroes will make a comeback.

Will there be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4?

After the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in May 2023, fans quickly started to wonder if there would be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4. Sure, it’s maybe the end of Gunn’s work for the franchise, but its characters will forever be part of the MCU; thus, they can still make a triumphant return. Marvel Studios have already tried to expand their movie trilogies with Thor: Love and Thunder, Captain America: New World Order, and Spider-Man 4. The same could be said with the Guardians of the Galaxy, albeit with a new director and members to take on the leading roles.

If this happens, the fourth movie may include other MCU characters and some new faces. The third film’s post-credit scene showed the team-up of Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), Cosmo the Spacedog (Maria Bakalova), and Phyla (Kai Zen). There’s also a possibility that Nova or Moondragon would join them, while Rocket Raccoon and Groot might return. With Saldaña and Dave Bautista’s exit, the only way this movie can happen is to have a new group defending the galaxy. Anyhow, fans are advised to take this assumption with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed yet.
