The development of GTA 6 might end up getting delayed because of a new strike action that seems to be entering the gaming industry. Lately, the TV and movie industry has gone through some serious delays in media productions because of the SAG-AFTRA strikes. The purpose of these strikes is to fight for better treatment and the rights of writers, industry professionals, and actors. Now, it looks like they are organizing a second strike for people in the gaming industry, which hasn’t yet received any authorization.
The main purpose behind this strike is to "win wage increases and protection from artificial intelligence." This has caused a lot of disappointment and sadness in the gaming industry, with viral videos of video game actors going around making use of their voices for AI content. Currently, SAG-AFTRA is under contract with multiple video game companies, including Epic Games, Electronic Arts Productions, WB Games, Activision Productions, and Insomniac Games.
It has been reported that both parties will visit this matter and resume negotiations on their contracts on 26 September. Even though players are going to support the professionals in the gaming industry during their fight for better treatment as well as pay, most of them will also be worried about the release of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 game.
Rockstar Games’ much-anticipated title is rumored to be among some of the most expensive video games ever developed. Furthermore, GTA 6 is expected to receive a massive profit once it is released, even though an official date has not been revealed by the developers. The status of its development also remains a mystery, so depending on the SAG-AFTRA discussions, Grand Theft Auto 6 might be among a lot of the games to get delayed because of the strike.
However, a Reddit post shared by the user BrandsXavier describes in detail how the game won't be getting delayed at all. So, we'll just have to wait and see how the negotiations go.
The SAG-AFTRA recently stated that it’s looking for "an 11% retroactive increase in rates for video game performers, followed by increases of 4% and 4%," along with protection from AI software. Not only this, but it also asked for no stunts during self-recorded auditions, rest periods, and better safety protections for performers. There’s a high chance GTA 6 might face delays if some of its game’s story or open-world interaction hasn’t been developed yet.
Currently, Grand Theft Auto 6 has no release date but is expected to release in 2024/2025 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
