A new dark fantasy isekai anime, Failure Frame: I Became the Strongest and Annihilated Everything with Low-Level Spells, is about to hit the small screen. Seven Arcs’ anime adaptation of Kaoru Shinozaki’s light novel was officially announced at the 10th Anniversary Memorial Overlap Bunko All-Star Assemble Special in January 2024. After three months, the anime has dropped its first trailer to reveal its cast, release window of July 2024, and opening theme song, Hazure by Chogakusei.

You can see the preview below:

The Failure Frame trailer begins with Goddess Vysis, who summons the Class 2C into the alternative world of Otherworldly. In front of her are a bunch of students, and she asks them to save her world. The scene then shows Mimori Touka, a young man summoned to a different world with his classmates. However, as his hero rank is recognized as “E,” Vysis discarded him. As he becomes a subject of mockery by the other students, Touka swears to take his revenge.

Touka is then seen fighting off a monster after Vysis left him to die. But as he seems to have enough, he can surprisingly stop the beast with his power. From there, an epic fight between the goddesses and the monsters begins as the opening theme plays. Seras Ashrain, a stunning high elf, then takes the scene.

Touga’s slime companion, Pigimaru, also appears. The two meet when Touga has successfully left the dungeon. As Touga announces that the heroes are about to die, he dares to start the competition with Seras by his side.

Meanwhile, the anime has also dropped a new key visual for Failure Frame. It features the two lead characters, Touga and Seras, unleashing their powers and abilities as they prepare to take their revenge and fight their enemies.

What is Failure Frame about?

Failure Frame follows the story of Touka after being summoned into a fantasy world with his classmates to be heroes. However, compared to the other students, who possess incredible skills, Touka is the weakest, with an E-rank. The goddess sees him as useless and sends him to the dungeon, where no one has ever returned. However, after his great powers finally come out, he seeks revenge.

You can read the synopsis below:

Touka Mimori and his classmates are abruptly catapulted into a fantasy world, summoned by the resident goddess to serve as heroes. The good news? Most of the students display amazing skills upon arrival! The bad? Mimori is the worst of the lot, bottoming out at a measly E-rank. Incensed, the goddess tosses him into a dungeon to die–but it turns out that Mimori's skills aren't so much worthless as they are abnormal. Abnormally powerful, perhaps!

The anime is based on the light novel series of the same title by Kaoru Shinozaki. It was first serialized on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in November 2017 and was later acquired by Overlap and published in print with illustrations by KWKM in July 2018. It was then adapted into manga, composed by Keyaki Uchi-Uchi and illustrated by Sho Uyushi. The manga began its serialization in July 2019. Finally, Seven Arcs adapted it into anime.
