Ncuti Gatwa is taking his new role as the Fifteenth Doctor very seriously and he's been very busy. The Sex Education star has confirmed that he already filmed his scenes for the upcoming season of Doctor Who. In addition to that, Gatwa confirmed he is already getting ready to work on another season!
On May 2022, it was confirmed that Ncuti Gatwa will take over as Doctor Who's Time Lord after Jodie Whittaker. Although Gatwa was expected to become the Fourteenth Doctor right after Whittaker, the character regenerated into a version of David Tennant's Tenth Doctor who was then confirmed to be Fourteen. The surprise reappearance of Ten as Fourteen pushed Gatwa to become the Fifteenth Doctor.
It's still unclear why the Doctor regenerated into Ten but Whovians are already expecting an explanation in the upcoming Doctor Who Holiday Specials. Either way, we're sure that Ncuti Gatwa is sticking around as the new Time Lord considering that he's working on multiple seasons.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone UK, Gatwa admitted that he misses working in theater but is also ready to keep working on major franchises.
“It kept me warm and it held me all night, even if I was broke. But I’m planning on getting back to it next year, after I finish season two of Doctor Who,” he confessed.
It's great to know that Gatwa is still grounded and finds comfort in theater. However, it's also awesome to know that he will be working on another season of Doctor Who very soon.
Ncuti Gatwa is expected to debut as the Fifteenth Doctor in the Doctor Who Holiday Special later this year before Season 14 premieres on BBC and Disney+ in 2024. In the meantime, fans can see him as one of the Kens in Barbie, which hits theaters on July 21, 2023.
