Earlier this month, the first season of the new Devil May Cry animated series — which comes from Studio Mir and showrunner Adi Shankar (Castlevania) — premiered on Netlfix, and just a week after its release, the streamer has renewed the series for a second season. Based on the popular action-adventure videogame franchise created by Hideki Kamiya, the eight-episode Devil May Cry anime features an urban fantasy story centered on the half-demon, half-human, hunter's quest to take down the demon king responsible for the death of his family.
The first teaser visual for Devil May Cry Season 2 features Dante wielding a gun with the text, listing the sequel as "coming soon". Additional information such as release date and plot details haven't been revealed yet.
What to Expect in Devil May Cry Season 2
Obviously, we're about to dive into spoiler territory, so if you haven't watched the first season of Devil May Cry, you may want to avoid reading this section of the article. Season 1's ending was unexpected as the United States invaded hell and started to mine it for resources. Lady captured Dante, and delivered him to Darkcom but this doesn't mean that the innocent demons are hopeless. In the final moments of the Season 1 finale, Dante's brother Vergil arrived and aided Darkcom's captors, setting the stage for him to play a more significant role in the sequel.
The renewal of Devil May Cry shouldn't come as a big surprise as showrunner Adi Shankar previously told IGN Japan that he is planning for a "multi-season arc", meaning that Dante's future will unfold in multiple connected seasons. At this time, Netflix hasn't shared any plot details for Devil May Cry Season 2, but we can expect Dante's story to continue for a long time.
What is the Devil May Cry anime about?
Hideki Kamiya's Devil May Cry games are mostly developed and published by Capcom. The urban fantasy series follows the demon hunter Dante and his efforts to vanquish various demons who invade Earth. Meet Dante: a half-human, half-demon, hunter for hire and carefree owner of the Devil May Cry agency.
