Deadpool & Wolverine Star Ryan Reynolds Praises Hugh Jackman's Logan

Though Ryan Reynolds finds Deadpool and Wolverine similar, he believes the 2017 Logan is "the greatest comic-book adaptation ever made."

There’s no denying that Deadpool and Wolverine are two of the most famous comic book characters of today. Hence, many celebrate as they’re about to work together in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, making their first jump in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, although these two titular characters have their own comic-book adaptations, Ryan Reynolds has nothing but high praise for Hugh Jackman’s 2017 movie Logan.

In an interview with Total Film, Reynolds believes Wade and Logan have always been connected as he reflects on the similarities between their previous on-screen appearances. If Reynolds has Deadpool movies, Jackman has several X-Men films. But despite the number of superhero movies out there, Reynolds is convinced that the first Deadpool film offered something unique to the slate when it was released in 2016, like Jackman’s Logan did when it hit the big screen a year after.

“The movies were quite congruent with each other at that point,” Reynolds said. “Deadpool was different, and then right after Logan was potentially the greatest comic-book adaptation ever made.”

Directed by James Mangold, Logan is the 10th installment in the X-Men film series and the third and final movie in the Wolverine trilogy. Based on the Old Man Logan comic book storyline by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, it received critical acclaim for its emotional depth and Jackman’s performance. It became the best-reviewed movie in the X-Men franchise. But despite the heaps of praise it received, his first appearance in the 2000 X-Men was poorly received.

“We were on the low-tide version of that genre,” Jackman recalled. “It’d gone way up with the Batman movies and fizzled out. But when the X-Men came in, people felt like it represented the source material about giving voice to the marginalized.”

However, though the film launched Jackman to incredible stardom, he still received advice to audition for other projects, as others believed superhero movies would go nowhere at the time. “A couple of people in the industry with their ear to the ground told me, “Keep auditioning because this thing is dead in the water,’” he continued.

Evidently, they’re all wrong, as Jackman is back to reprise his role as the adamantium-clawed mutant in Deadpool & Wolverine. The threequel is posed to great success. With the hype surrounding the only MCU film this 2024, there are assumptions that it may earn $1 billion at the box office. If this happens, Marvel Studios will reach the $1-billion mark again after the 2019 Avengers: Endgame.

What is Deadpool & Wolverine about?

As Deadpool is known for its many F-bombs, Marvel Studios released a profanity-laced synopsis for Deadpool & Wolverine. As the first R-rated movie for Disney and Marvel, the film is called their “most significant mistake” and dubbed Deadpool “listless” and Wolverine “reluctant.” But on a serious note, the film will see Wade suiting up again with Logan to face a common enemy and save the Sacred Timeline.

You can read the Deadpool & Wolverine synopsis below:

Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date – Deadpool & Wolverine. A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier… reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to – F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.
