Deadpool & Wolverine sets the stage for the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover. With the number of characters and cameos it will feature, it is said to surpass Anthony and Joe Russo's 2019 Avengers: Endgame. As the threequel is set to end Fox's X-Men universe, several mutants are expected to make an appearance. By the looks of it, Hugh Jackman just teases the possible cameo of Cyclops.
Jackman made an intriguing Instagram post after sharing a photo of their promotional world tour in Brazil. In the snap, Ryan Reynolds could be seen wearing Cyclops' iconic visor while he was laughing, reigniting fans' hope that the X-Men leader would appear in Deadpool & Wolverine.
"Whose idea was it to pair us together?!" the caption reads.
As expected, many saw this as a tease that Cyclops would have a cameo in the threequel. As it will feature multiple variants of Deadpool and Wolverine, there’s a possibility that it may also include new versions of the X-Men, and James Marsden may return as a variant of Cyclops. There are also theories that the movie will visit the original X-Men timeline, where the original Scott Summers may appear.
Will James Marsden return as Cyclops in Deadpool & Wolverine?
Speculations about Marsden's possible return as Cyclops in Deadpool & Wolverine remain rampant. Though his comeback isn't confirmed yet, the actor said in 2022 that he was open to the idea of revisiting the mutant world.
In March, he addressed the cameo rumors in an interview with The Playlist podcast. At the time, he revealed that he was filming Sonic 3 near the stages of Deadpool 3 in Pinewood Studios. He then compared the claims to Pandora's box, neither denying nor confirming his potential part in the movie. However, this seems to hint that he has visited the MCU movie's set and may have filmed a scene or two.
"We were near the Deadpool stages up there in Pinewood actually," he said. "Yeah, this is a little bit of a Pandora's box."

How could Cyclops possibly return to Deadpool & Wolverine?
Marsden was last seen as Cyclops in X-Men: Days of the Future Past in a cameo appearance after Wolverine reset the timeline and brought him back to life. As Fox started to focus on featuring the younger X-Men, with Cyclops being played by Tye Sheridan, he was presumed dead after he didn't show up in James Mangold's 2017 Logan.
Logan is deemed to be the end of the original X-Men Cinematic Universe. Charles Xavier / Professor X's psychic powers started to degenerate in the film, alluding the Cyclops might be one of the X-Men who died alongside their leader's abilities. But despite his assumed demise, Cyclops could make a triumphant return in Deadpool & Wolverine as a variant. As the Multiverse can bring dead characters to life, this is probably the only way that Cyclops can be seen alive again.
Reynolds and director Shawn Levy have been teasing many surprises in Deadpool & Wolverine, including cameos of major X-Men and MCU characters. Though Reynolds wearing Cyclops' visor may mean nothing, Marsden's comments about his possible appearance could be a hint.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release in theaters on July 26.
