With Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer set to release next week, fans are wondering what’s next in store for the director. They are also secretly hoping that Nolan would return to directing superhero movies since they are still his specialty. The last big superhero project he took on was the Dark Knight Trilogy which started off with Batman Begins.
In an interview with HugoDécrypte on YouTube, Nolan answered a couple of rapid-fire questions, seeking quick yes-or-no answers. In between the questions, Hugo asked Nolan if he wanted to direct another superhero movie after Batman, a fair question considering the amount of praise his movies have received.
However, Nolan responded without hesitation with a simple “No,” crushing fans’ hopes of watching another Christopher Nolan-directed superhero movie. With that blunt response, Nolan is dead-set on letting his fans know that he has moved on from superhero movies.
Hugo also asked Nolan if he was thinking of directing a Star Wars movie, to which the director did not really give an answer. He simply responded with a neutral “Pass.”
Christian Bale Will Return As Batman Only If Nolan Directed
Nolan made it clear that he would no longer direct superhero movies, making it quite clear that Christian Bale, the star of the Dark Knight Trilogy, won’t be returning either. Last year in an interview with Comicbook.com, Bale said Nolan is the only director he would consider returning as a superhero for. You can see his full response below:
With Nolan being done with superhero movies, this marks the end of the possibility that Bale might return as Batman in the DCU’s multiverse, for the time being, at least. However, if you are looking to watch a Christopher Nolan movie, then wait some more for his Oppenheimer releases in theatres on July 21, 2023.
