Night City is getting one more surprise. Cyberpunk 2077 is receiving a free Update 2.5 this week, built around the launch of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, and it brings with it a playstyle players have been asking about since the game first released in 2020.
CD Projekt Red announced the Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) will go live on Thursday, October 22 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The studio is holding its full reveal for a REDstreams broadcast on Wednesday, October 21 at 5 PM CEST — 11 AM ET — on Twitch, YouTube and Steam, with the official patch notes expected the same day.
You can watch the REDstreams reveal here once it goes live:
Dual-Wielding Finally Arrives in Night City
Two headline features are confirmed so far: cyberware customization and a brand-new dual-wielding playstyle. Dual-wielding is the big one — the ability to fight with a weapon in each hand was cut before Cyberpunk 2077's December 2020 launch, and players have requested it ever since. The update's official illustration leans into the fantasy, showing V standing back to back with a character from the new season of the anime, pistols in both hands.
Cyberware customization is the second pillar, opening up how players can build and tune V's chrome. CD Projekt Red says there is more in the patch beyond the two named features, including new items and features inspired by the second season of Edgerunners, with the full list held back for the stream.
A Tie-In Timed to the Anime's Return
The update lands two days after Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix on October 20. The new season is a standalone 10-episode story of redemption and revenge, separate from David Martinez's arc, and the game is marking the occasion the same way it did in 2022 — when the first season's success helped power Cyberpunk 2077's remarkable comeback. That year's Edgerunners update loaded the game with anime-inspired weapons and gear, including David Martinez's jacket, and it remains the template fans expect Update 2.5 to follow.
It is also the game's first major update in over a year, following Update 2.3 in 2025, and it arrives after CD Projekt Red had previously signaled that major patching on Cyberpunk 2077 was finished as the studio shifted its weight behind The Witcher IV and the Cyberpunk sequel. Night City, it turns out, was not quite done. The announcement's official illustration comes from Taisei Uchida, Yukiko Kakita and Yuichiro Tozawa — and on October 22, players get to find out what else has been chromed up.
