Since the first season of the Chainsaw Man TV anime adaptation ended in December 2022, fans have been anticipating the feature film titled Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, and after a period of radio silence, the staff finally shared official updates, including the film's release date in Japan. More recently, Sony Pictures, which is distributing the film overseas, revealed its international release date. There's also a teaser trailer that teases the explosive action of the Chainsaw Man film.
However, if you've been out of the loop, here's a reminder: Denji's horror-comedy dark fantasy story will continue in the upcoming feature film instead of going stright to a second TV anime season. As the title suggests, the film will adapt the story arc of Tatsuki Fujimoto's manga centered on the character Reze, who briefly appeared in the Season 1 finale. The second season of the TV anime will likely be announced after the film's release.

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc Release Date
At this year's AnimeJapan, it was announced that Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc is scheduled to release in Japanese theaters on September 19. At CinemaCon on March 31, Sony Pictures announced that the film will be released in the U.S. theaters beginning on October 29, 2025. This was also confirmed by the official X account of the anime:
Over 80 countries will start screening the anime movie earlier, starting September 24, just a few days after its premiere in Japan.
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc Plot
The upcoming Chainsaw Man film will likely adapt the explosive Bomb Girl arc (Chapters 40-52) of Tatsuki Fujimoto's popular horror-comedy manga series, and it's expected to set up the International Assassins arc (Chapters 53-70) for the TV anime sequel.
The official synopsis of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc film reads:
Denji became “Chainsaw Man,” a boy with a devil’s heart, and is now part of Special Division 4’s devil hunters. After a date with Makima, the woman of his dreams, Denji takes shelter from the rain. There he meets Reze, a girl who works in a café.
Chainsaw Man Season 1 adapted the first 38 manga chapters, so if you want to know what happens after the first season, you'll need to start reading from the 39th chapter. Though, it's still unclear how far the feature film will reach in terms of adapting the manga series. The Public Safety Saga is only 40%. of the way through the first part of the manga, and it's unlikely that one film would be enough to adapt the rest of that. The Bomb Girl arc is the fifth story arc of the Public Safety Saga, which consists of eight arcs total.
Without going to major spoiler territory, the woman seen in the Season 1 finale is Reze, who will play a significant role in the film. Of course, she's expected to get close to Denji. On top of that, the overarching presence of Gun Devil will continue to be a threat as the now-merged Division of 4 of Public Safety and its team of Devil Hunters meet new friends and enemies.
