Tomokazu Sugita is on a roll. The Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War voice actor just landed an important role in the new Rurouni Kenshin anime. After playing the captain of the 9th Division in the Gotei 13, Sugita has been cast as a terrifying villain with a deadly ability that will stop you in your tracks.
Mantan Web confirmed that Tomokazu Sugita is the voice behind the mysterious new character known as Kurogasa (via Anime News Network). The villain previously appeared in the final moments of Rurouni Kenshin Episode 5, but the assassin makes his official debut in this week's episode, which is named after his moniker.

Kurogasa is a huge mystery to the police, but Kenshin Himura knows a lot about him. The assassin's real name is Jin-e Udo, and he was a hitokiri like Kenshin for the Shinsengumi during the Bakumatsu. However, the war made Kurogasa bloodthirsty, and he becomes a hired assassin who uses fear against his victims. If his abilities as a swordsman are already terrifying on their own, Jin-e's greatest skill is his Shin no Ippo technique, which paralyzes his opponents.
It's awesome casting considering Sugita has an imposing voice that perfectly fits the character. Sugita's performance in Rurouni Kenshin Episode 6 proves that it takes a great actor to make a villain terrifying using only his words. With that in mind, we can't wait to see more of Kurogasa next week.
Sugita's most recent work is in the second half of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, where he returns as Kensei Murugama. He has also appeared in Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown as Taiju Shiba and Trigun Stampede, where he portrayed Chuck Lee. Sugita's next big project is the anime adaptation of Buncololi's light novel Sasaki and Peeps. In the meantime, Kurogasa will return in Rurouni Kenshin Episode 7, titled The Two Hitokiri. It will premiere on August 18, 2023.
