Plot For Canceled Batgirl Movie Leaks Online, and It's Pretty Fantastic

The plot of Batgirl was recently leaked through a Twitter thread, making its cancellation even more painful for the fans!

The quality of DC has gone down over the last couple of years with the release of a bunch of disconcerting movies, so the idea of a Batgirl movie sounded pretty good. Fans were excited about the movie's release, waiting for an official date to come out. Many terrific actors were going to appear in the movie, like Michael Keaton, J.K. Simmons, and Brendan Fraser.

Unfortunately, the movie was canceled before it could release in theaters. Not only this but a rough plot of the film was recently leaked online to rub salt in our wounds, making the cancellation sound even more painful. No official plot synopsis was released for the movie, but it was going to follow the rise of Batgirl to fame as a hero in Gotham along with Batman.

Batgirl Plot Leaked via Twitter Thread

Before we get into the leak, it is important to note that you should not take the thread much seriously since it's just a leak, and no official news regarding it has been released. A Twitter user called Neb has leaked the unofficial version of the plot of Batgirl. As per the tweet, the movie follows the story of Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, who is the daughter of the Chief of Gotham City Police, Jim Gordon.

She becomes a member of the Bat family vigilante group while working to put an end to an evil villain who is very well connected to her actual family. Regardless of being the favorite of many Batman fans, DC only brought Batgirl twice to the live-action screen. The first was in Alicia Silverstone’s 1997 Batman & Robin, and the other was in 2008’s The Dark Knight. However, none of them officially featured Barbara Gordon as Batgirl.

The Dark Knight featured a short cameo of Hannah Gunn as the unnamed daughter of Commissioner Gordon. However, she wasn’t acknowledged as Batgirl since the credits only listed her as ‘Gordon’s daughter.’ Furthermore, in Batman & Robin, the character of Silverstone was the niece of Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred, and her character was given the name of Barbara Wilson.

Leslie Grace, who played Batgirl, was ready to be the first actress in the movie to play the character without any restraints. Sadly, Warner Bros. decided to scrap the movie when it was nearly finished as part of their plan to switch their focus from streaming films to blockbusters.

Esquire reported that Batgirl was already done with its principal photography and was all set to release in 2022 through HBO Max. However, it was canceled by the studio because of “[being] written off during a financial shakeup at Warner Bros., and stricken from theaters, and streaming, likely forever.”

Even though DC Studios is now under the management of James Gunn and Peter Safran, we aren’t sure whether the completed Batgirl movie will ever release.
