After almost two years, fans finally got an update about the release of Arcane Season 2. However, viewers will be up for another waiting game as the recent Tencent Video V Vision Conference announced that the acclaimed League of Legends animated series will not be out until next year.
Created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee, the first season of Arcane was set in Riot’s League of Legends fictional universe, focusing mostly on the sisters and champions Vi and Jinx. With the series’ massive success, released to universal acclaim with its animation, story, action sequences, and more, Riot Games and Netflix announced the coming of Arcane Season 2, which was already in production.
But years have passed, and fans haven’t seen the continuation of Vi and Jinx’s stories yet. Thankfully, Tencent Video V Vision Conference finally unveiled Arcane Season 2’s release window, and it's set to hit the small screens in the Winter of 2024.
When is the release window of Arcane Season 2?
Though Netflix and Riot Games have both remained mum about Arcane Season 2’s release. Fans are not short of theorizing when the second season will finally be released.
As it was announced that it would be out in the winter of 2024, fans on Reddit strongly believed it would be in December. Why? The winter season will start on December 21, 2024, and will last until March 20, 2025, and Netflix usually releases a good amount of its biggest titles in December.
As the announcement unveiled that it would happen in 2024 and December is the only remaining winter month of the season, this assumption may be true. However, fans should only take this theory with a grain of salt, as a show’s release often changes.
Why Arcane Season 2 won’t be out this year
Netflix renewed Arcane for a second season after the first season ended in November 2021. Since then, fans have been waiting for the series’ release, but nothing has come to fruition.
In an interview with Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent, he revealed Arcane Season 2 wasn’t ready yet for two reasons. First, the quality cannot be rushed, and second, giving the show the best animation takes time. “So, that's the good reason,” he said.
Sure, there is a long three-year gap between Arcane's first and second seasons’ release. But the wait will surely be worth it if it promises a great story and high-quality animation.
