It has been a long wait but it looks like we finally got an update on Alita: Battle Angel 2. James Cameron may have confirmed that a second film is underway. In addition to that, the Avatar: The Way of Water director revealed that there are multiple sequels currently in development.
Alita: Battle Angel was released in 2018 and fans immediately called for a sequel. However, the movie was caught in the middle of Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox and at one point, people feared that the House of Mouse will not greenlight more Alita films. Nevertheless, fans, who called themselves Alita's Army, continue to push for the sequels with various social media campaigns.
Luckily, it looks like the Alita sequel is moving forward. In an interview with Forbes, James Cameron confirmed that one of his new projects included a second Alita movie. In fact, he may have confirmed that there is more than one film in development.

“And on Avatar, I’m working in Wellington and Los Angeles. And on the new Alita: Battle Angel films, I’ll be working in Austin, so it just didn’t make sense for us anymore,” Cameron said.
We're loving the idea that James Cameron confirmed he is working on more than just one Alita sequel and that the projects appear to be at the top of his priorities. On the other hand, the details about the new movies have not yet been revealed officially. Nevertheless, we're hoping to get an official announcement on Alita 2 and 3 before the end of the year.
Alita: Battle Angel was directed by Robert Rodriguez and starred Rosa Salazar as the titular cyborg. It also featured Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, and Edward Norton, who are all expected to return for the sequels.
For now, the Alita sequels have not yet been officially announced.
