Netflix is now gearing up for the nearing release of its new K-drama series, A Killer Paradox. In a couple of days, fans will finally see the return of Choi Woo-shik on the small screen, along with Son Suk-ku, as the criminal and detective Lee Tang and Jang Nan-gam. As the show is about to feature a different kind of theme, with a murderer turning into a vigilante after receiving a superpower to know the bad people who need killing, the cast and the director, Lee Chang-hee, reveal the real meaning behind it.

Netflix gives an in-depth look at the cast and characters of A Killer Paradox while Chang-lee shares his take on the new show. Lee Hee-joon also joins them as the former detective Song Chon, who’s on a hunt for Lee Tang.

While talking about the K-drama, Woo-shik revealed it would be about the story of Lee Tang, who, after accidentally killing a murderer, found out he could discern evil people and instantly made him a hero. Suk-ku then talked about his role as Detective Nan-gam, who’s looking for the two murderers, Lee Tang and Song Chon.

Moreover, Hee-joon described his character as a former detective who, just like Lee Tang, became a murderer overnight. But compared to the A Killer Paradox protagonist, he just kills people through this judgment, making him another serial killer.

You can watch the interview below:

What is the meaning of A Killer Paradox?

In the same interview, Chang-lee said that the meaning of A Killer Paradox depends on who’s watching, while Woo-shik believed it’s about “A Killer’s Plaything.” “It has that playful vibe from the word ‘plaything,’” he explained. In addition, Suk-ku read the title as “A Killer Doxxed,” the same thing Hee-joon said and called it a “helpless situation for all.”

Elsewhere, the director discussed the challenges of adapting Kkomabi’s webtoon, on which the series is based, into live-action. Despite fearing these difficulties, he used these struggles as catalysts to fuel his spirit as the director. Thanks to its source material, it helped him have a lot of ideas and imagination that made him confident enough to do the K-drama.

What makes A Killer Paradox unique?

In addition, Suk-ku saw A Killer Paradox as “more casual, normal, and real” compared to other K-drama series that would give fans a strange feeling of fear and suspense. Chang-lee added that the characters define the series’ genre, with Lee Tang making it a fantasy. In contrast, Nan-gam adds a little mystery, and Song Chon’s crimes make their different characteristics produce a perfect synergy that makes the show unique.

He continued that people’s different interpretations of the show are quite intriguing as they also change the narrative. As fans may be confused about Lee Tang’s murderous way, it now depends on the viewers how they will perceive him.
