The nominees for the 61st edition of the Baeksang Arts Awards, one of South Korea's most prestigious entertainment award ceremonies, have been announced. The event celebrates the best artistic merit and performance from Korean dramas, films, and variety shows. Candidates were selected from dramas and films that aired or were released between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025. To qualify at least one-third of a production had to have been released by March 31. Winners will be announced at the ceremony taking place on May 5 at 8 p.m. KST.
The newly-revealed nominations highlight the intense competition across all major categories for both TV shows and films. Netflix's When Life Gives You Tangerines, starring Park Bo-gum and IU (Lee Ji-eun) dominated the K-drama categories (9 nominations), followed by Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon's tvN drama Lovely Runner (5 nominations).
For Best New Actor, those who have starred in no more than three programs were eligible to be nominated. Programs that were excluded last year because they were released during the screening period were also included in this year’s lineup.
Netflix's hit reality cooking show Culinary Class Wars was also nominated in the Best Variety Show category, and it will be competing against four other shows. Netflix already renewed Culinary Class Wars for a second season, which is expected to release later this year.
In the film category, four movies — Love in the Big City (2024), Revolver (2024), Netflix's Uprising (2024) and Harbin (2024) — have been nominated in five categories each, including the Best Film award. Moreover, Song Hye-kyo, Jung Hae-in, Jeon Yeo-been, and Hyun Bin scored acting nominations.
